Champamaya Pariyar, president of Women’s Income Earning Group by herbs. This area and group belongs from Pashupati Community Forest Users Group in Manhari Rural Municipality of Makwanpur. In normal situation here is no chance to become entrepreneur for uneducated woman of dalit community . Now days it become true by Community forest users group .
Champa’s daily routine is reach the place where the group is cultivating collective herbs after finishing the household work of her house. She arranges grass for her cows and goats from the place where herbs are cultivated. After finishing the house hold work early morning for go to he take care of the herbs farm . She is working hard to make herb farming because this is the main source of income for her . She farm snake roots cultivation and is currently cultivating turmeric and ginger in group. They have already given income from Sarpagandha( snake root) which was started 7 years ago. By her work now She has become a source of inspiration for her community.
The story of her sufferings is as beautiful as his life, who started reading simple articles, speaking and developing leadership while joining the community forest users group. When she was child people called her Damai by dominating , even her last name was written as Damai .She expressed her anger towards the officer who distributed the citizenship at that time. Not only her but also her husband’s surname is mentioned Damai or the same reason, the citizenship of her children is also written on there surname. It means they are poor and dominated by cast, status . Thats why nobody could imagine that woman become entrepreneur . She has become a role model for women in the her community, she remembers that she had to struggle a lot to stay in this society. Cultivation of herbs and grass done collectively in places where there are no trees has become a source of income. The poor, Dalit and tribal women in that group have been doing collective farming by forming sub-groups for income generation. She was searching for a prosperous future in this forest, but she had to lose his children when she went to cut grass in this same forest.
Champa’s parents was used to sewing clothes for livelihood in the past . She couldn’t get study, healthy food and well life in her childhood . Champa remembering that her struggle started after her married into a farming family, She says, “Plowing the fields, going to the forest, and going to fairs were the daily routine of my family, so I had to do other work besides plowing the fields.” “At the same time, even when I was pregnant, I lost my son after falling from a tree,” she said. She said that after her family moved to Manhari from Sarikhet of Makwanpur due to being alert from a young age. She says that when she became a member of the community forest, initially she entered the Dalit women’s quota, but she did not want to be limited as a Dalit on the basis of mercy. She says, “Dalit was made by the community and I felt that it was my decision to become who I would be. After that, I did not stop learning, I even learned to speak. Whatever happened, this situation was created by the community forest, which increased the courage to speak and act.” After that, she says that he is going to search for a happy life hidden in the sorrow of his life. According to Champa efforts have been made to create sub-groups from 7 years ago in order to earn income from community forest. Champa the president of the group, said that they have helped a lot financially as they have been rearing goats by planting herbs and grass plants collectively. She said, “I never thought that we will earn income together in this place, there is nothing that should not be done.” She said that after the herb farming, which was started with the idea of developing self-employment and entrepreneurship, started yielding income by producing from the vacant space after cutting down the trees under high tension electricity line, everyone got excited and got energy to work harder. She said that gathering herbs and taking grass when returning home has become their daily routine and said that the group has also cultivated ginger this year. Starting that ginger cultivation has been completed, he said that help is needed in terms of market management. 7 years ago, when She started cultivating herbs, he dreamed of an income, but he was sad and a little disappointed in the condition of taking care of the things in the house. When the Champa lanted grass around the place where the herbs were planted, it became easy to raise animals at home. She said it happened. She said that he is currently raising goats along with herbs, ginger and amreso. She says that currently the women of the sub-group are also producing and selling the seeds of Sarpagandha (snake root). According to Her, women who spend most of their time in the morning and evening sleeping and spending time sleeping are now able and busy. Stating that her group is an example of how community forests have changed lives, he says, “We have no land to cultivate, no investment to do other things, in such a situation, this one program brought by the Community Forest Consumer Federation has really changed us.” She said that goat rearing was started with a small investment and She did not have to go far for grass. President Champa has concluded that the activities of the Community Forest Users Federation to raise the living standards of underprivileged women in the community forests have proved to be worthwhile.
